Cure Lung Cancer - Is Lung Cancer Curable?

As you know, our lungs are the most vital organs of our body. It absorbs oxygen from the air and distributes it to different parts of our body; it also expels carbon dioxide from our body into the air. When however, malignant cells develop in our lungs, we suffer from lung cancer. In this article I will tell you whether lung cancer is curable or not. Needless to say, the primary cause behind lung cancer is smoking. It is sad that even after a lot of government-sponsored propaganda against smoking and its ill-effects, people continue their smoking habits, without realizing how much they are damaging their bodies. And if you think that you only need to stop smoking in order to cure lung cancer, you are dead wrong! Along with abstaining from smoking yourself, you should also try to live and work in a smoke-free environment. This is because passive smoking can also affect your lungs as much as active smoking does. There are many different symptoms of lung cancer. If you are coughing frequently, with so much pressure that blood is coming out of your lungs, then in all probability you are suffering from lung cancer. Also, if you are having difficulty in breathing, then too it is possible that you are suffering from lung cancer. However, mere occurrence of these symptoms should not lead you to believe that you have lung cancer. I'd suggest you consult with a professional doctor because only a qualified doctor can tell you whether you are suffering from lung cancer or not. In order to diagnose lung cancer, your doctor will ask you to go through different types of tests. The common tests that are used to diagnose lung cancer are x-ray, sputum test, CT scans and biopsies. And it is really easy to cure lung cancer. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the two ways to cure lung cancer. Mostly, doctors use a combination of both the therapies in order to cure lung cancer. In some cases, surgery maybe used instead of radiation, especially if cancer has not spread beyond the lungs of the patient. However, these treatments are quite costly. So if you are not yet a lung cancer sufferer I'd recommend that you take immediate steps to prevent it. And the first step to prevent lung cancer is to stop smoking. The worst case is that it's cancer which has spread. The best case is that it's something benign. His doctor may or may not want a biopsy. Best of luck. By: ckm1956 2011-03-14 18:08:01

Has anyone been involved in a clinical trial for the new lung cancer treatment?

If so, can you tell me how you did with the treatment, and how you are doing now?

I have a friend who starts a clinical trial in March and I am being tested for a trial in March or April. Both trials are for targeted drugs and share one common drug of the two drugs in each study. Clinical trials are for many different reasons. I will discuss this with you if you want to go to my avatar and send me an email. By: millie 2011-02-26 19:21:10

What happens during lung cancer treatment?

Does a person have to stay in the hospital for the whole treatment process? And what exactly is happens during treatment? Cancer type: NSCLC epidermoid carcinoma or Squamous cell carcinoma

My sister has lung cancer and she was to have out patient chemo. Only because she has several cancer and is terminal, chemo was not an option. Most chemo treatments for lung cancer and most cancers are done on an out patient basis. You don't usually stay in the hospital for the duration. Good luck By: Memere RN/BA 2011-01-05 12:53:53

Cost of lung cancer treatment?

I'm doing a research paper on lung cancer and I need the average cost of lung cancer treatment and the average cost of treatment from Roswell Parks Cancer Institute. Does anyone know what they are?

This is difficult information to obtain. I doubt you will get a general answer. Which type of lung cancer - small cell or non-small cell ? Surgery is used for "non-small cell types" but not for small cells types. Of course surgery adds greatly to the overall expense - tens of thousands of dollars. The stage of the lung cancer matters too. Is radiation therapy involved? That is tens of thousands of dollars. If chemotherapy is involved - the expense varies greatly depending on which of the many chemotherapy agents /regimens are used. Some of the new ones are very expensive. More tens of thousand of dollars. Costs have been escalating astronomically in the past ten years since I retired from cancer medicine. Pharmaceutical company charges have become out of this world for the newer chemotherapy agents. Greed seems to be rampant at the corporate level. - - - If I had to guess - and this is based on what I have learned from "Dave" on this site - the current cost would be somewhere between $100,000 and $200,000 - or could be higher. The sad part is, we only cure one person in seven (~15%) who has a primary lung carcinoma in the USA despite all of this expense. Much better to prevent them. If people would not smoke cigarettes, about 90% of lung carcinomas could be avoided in the first place. Lung cancers from cigarette smoking cause over 31% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. - and they could have been prevented. By: Spreedog 2010-05-28 12:45:57

What are my chances of surviving lung cancer with treatment?

My doctor found a spot called a pulmonary nodule on my lung that may or may not be cancerous. Im worried that it is. What are my chances of surviving lung cancer? I am 19 years old and have been smoking for 5 years. I know emphazema runs in my family but im not too sure about lung cancer. Can someone please help me?

Most pulmonary nodules are benign, meaning it isn't cancerous. However there is a chance it could be malignant. I suppose the good news (other than it moree liekly being benign) is that it has been found early. Lung cancer is hard to treat radically (intent to cure), however it can be done. Being young, you are a good candidate for surgery to remove it if it is in a good position. You would also be fit enough to have chemotherapy, so if it is malignant it can be treated. But don't worry yourself about it, don't keep thinking on how it could be cancerous. And I suggest quitting smoking, but it is a personal choice. By: nick_bretherton 2010-02-24 22:08:56
